Cleethorpes is in a relatively early stage of development of this fun and endurance testing game.
Technique all important to limit lifting of the bigger and bouncier ball to squash but with nuance including use of spin, finding gaps, patience and less explosive but a real strategic challenging game. You know you’v had a workout as rallies can be supremely long if your mindful not to make too many unforced errors..
Club Squash Champion 2026, Rui, has taken to the game brilliantly, only losing 1 match so far to Grantham’s young star Lou Trouman really mastering the art of a solid defence. Reece’s speed is legendary ,only started playing recently and managed to beat Horncastles No 1 Rob Cunningham in a splendid 5 setter; 5 times squash club champion Ian Portas at 65 years young winning 2 out of 4 close matches. JZ , Club squash champion in 2025, having just picked up a racketball racket, going to the wire with Horncastle No 3 Jason Tingle. Simon Baldwin, premier squash player, also a renowned local Tennis and Paddle player using his volleying abilities to beat Ryan Glover, Lincoln Eastgate’s No 3.
ROB Hutt always a smile even after tinning 3 consecutive shots); and Steve Burnett (the fittest senior in the club??? enjoying close encounters with Spalding and Horncastle.
Cleethorpes have had a rotation policy enabling as many players to have a go. Great for development perhaps not maximising points; however a solid performance with 3 games to go wer’e definitely a premier side. Points are obtained by winning a game plus 3 bonus points if the team wins a match.
Any member wanting to try Racketball, drop a line either to Ian or Steve and we can help you get started. It definitely helps your squash as one has time during rallies to really focus on effective court movement.
Alternatively come and join amongst others Brian, Steve, Ian and Pete for a fun session and social on Sunday mornings at 10am.
